R32 vs R410A Refrigerant: What Pune Residents Need to Know in 2026

R410A is being phased out. Discover why R32 is the standard for 2026-2027 HVAC systems, its superior energy efficiency, and why proper installation is critical.

R32 vs R410A: The 2026 Refrigerant Shift

If you are buying an AC or commercial chiller in 2026, you will notice R410A is rapidly disappearing, replaced by R32. Why is this happening, and how does it affect your cooling performance in Pune?

1. Global Warming Potential (GWP)

  • R410A: GWP of 2088
  • R32: GWP of 675 (68% lower environmental impact) Under global regulations, R410A is being phased out. Buying an R410A system today means gas refills will become highly expensive by 2028 due to scarcity.

2. Energy Efficiency & Cooling Capacity

R32 is a single-component refrigerant, while R410A is a 50/50 blend.

  • R32 carries heat much more efficiently. It requires 20% less refrigerant charge to achieve the same cooling capacity.
  • Compressors using R32 consume less electricity, boosting the unit's ISEER rating.

3. Flammability & Safety

  • R410A is completely non-flammable (Class A1).
  • R32 is mildly flammable (Class A2L). Important: R32 is perfectly safe for home use, but it requires specialized handling during installation. It must be vacuumed deeply, and welding/brazing must be done safely.

At Prime Cool, our technicians are certified in A2L refrigerant handling. Never let an untrained local mechanic top-up an R32 system without a vacuum pump. Book a certified technician.
