ISEER Ratings Explained: How to Calculate Your 2027 AC Electricity Bill
Understand the latest 2026-2027 BEE ISEER ratings for air conditioners. Learn how to calculate your exact electricity bill and see the ROI of buying a 5-star AC.
ISEER Ratings Explained (2026-2027 Standards)
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) regularly updates its star rating tables. A 5-star AC from 2022 is often equivalent to a 3-star AC in 2026. Here is how to understand ISEER (Indian Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio).
What is ISEER?
ISEER is the ratio of the total annual amount of heat that the equipment can remove from an indoor space to the total annual amount of energy consumed.
ISEER = Cooling Seasonal Total Load (CSTL) / Cooling Seasonal Energy Consumption (CSEC)
The 2026-2027 BEE Table (Split ACs)
- 3 Star: ISEER 3.80 to 4.39
- 4 Star: ISEER 4.40 to 4.99
- 5 Star: ISEER 5.00 and above
How to Calculate Your Bill
Look at the BEE label for "Electricity Consumption (Units per year)". This is based on 1,600 hours of operation (approx. 4.3 hours a day).
Example: A 1.5 Ton 5-Star AC uses ~750 units/year.
If Maharashtra's commercial rate is ₹12/unit:
750 units × ₹12 = ₹9,000 per year.
A 3-Star AC uses ~1050 units/year.
1050 units × ₹12 = ₹12,600 per year.
The ROI: The ₹5,000 price difference between a 3-star and 5-star unit is recovered in just 18 months. For our MIDC clients running ACs 12 hours a day, a 5-star unit is mandatory. Schedule an energy audit with Prime Cool.
