Atlas Copco F1670W Air Dryer Troubleshooting & Maintenance

An advanced engineering guide to troubleshooting and maintaining the Atlas Copco F1670W refrigerated air dryer for industrial pneumatic systems.

Precision Moisture Control in Heavy Manufacturing

In the high-stakes manufacturing environments of Ranjangaon and Karegaon MIDC, maintaining bone-dry pneumatic lines is an operational necessity. Moisture destroys robotic valves, compromises paint booth finishes, and corrodes expensive tooling. The Atlas Copco F1670W Air Dryer is a heavy-duty refrigerated dryer designed to eliminate this risk, but it requires highly specific maintenance protocols to function efficiently.

1. Diagnosing High Dew Point Alarms

The primary function of the F1670W is to cool compressed air to a precise dew point (typically 3°C to 5°C), forcing water vapor to condense out of the airstream. If your control panel flashes a high dew point alarm, the system is failing to extract heat.

  • Condenser Fouling: Industrial dust and oil mist quickly coat the condenser fins. A blocked condenser forces the internal refrigerant pressure to skyrocket, cutting off the cooling cycle. High-pressure jet servicing is required quarterly.
  • Refrigerant Loss: A micro-leak in the R-410A or R-134a circuit will starve the heat exchanger. This requires a certified mechanic to perform a nitrogen pressure test, seal the leak, and recharge the system with 100% accuracy on a digital scale.

2. Auto-Drain Valve Failures

The F1670W features an electronic zero-loss condensate drain. If you notice water downstream in your air lines while the dew point reads normal on the display, the drain valve has failed.

  • Strainer Blockage: Rust flakes from older carbon-steel compressor tanks travel down the line and choke the tiny mesh strainer inside the drain valve.
  • Solenoid Burnout: The magnetic coil that actuates the valve can burn out due to electrical voltage spikes.

3. Evaporator Freezing

If the hot gas bypass valve loses calibration, the internal heat exchanger will drop below freezing. Instead of condensing water, it will freeze the moisture into solid ice, physically blocking the airflow and starving the factory floor of compressed air.
